Is There a Way To Stop Sweaty Palms?

Have you ever shaken hands with someone who had damp, sweaty hands? Maybe their hands were so wet that you wiped off your own hand after shaking theirs? If so, the person you shook hands with probably had palmar hyperhidrosis – sweaty hands.

This type of sweaty hand problem is not caused because they were nervous about meeting you. It isn’t caused because of a stressful situation at all. It is entirely a malfunction of their sympathetic nervous system which is giving the wrong signals to their sweat glands...

For someone who has this disorder, they have probably spent their entire life figuring out how to stop sweaty palms from ruining their life. Most likely they have avoided handshakes at all costs, tried not to grip items that others would grip right after them (a hand rail, a piece of paper), and it probably affected their love life. After all, who wants to hold hands with someone with dripping wet palms?

Luckily, there are many ways now to stop sweaty palms. A sufferer does not need to spend his or her entire life avoiding contact, and hiding their problem. The first step in treating excessively sweaty palms is to see a general physician. From there, they may be sent to see a doctor that specializes in nervous system problems, or even a dermatologist. Either of these doctors can help a patient out.

The usual way to stop sweaty palms in the medical world is now through either a topical antiperspirant or through Botox injections. Topical antiperspirants are far stronger than what you buy in a spray or solid at the drug store. They may be so strong that they burn the skin. Botox injections can also be painful, but for someone who suffers from this problem, the pain might be worth it.
