Is There Really a Way to Stop Underarm Sweating?
If you are a guy, you probably don’t worry too much about finding a way to stop underarm sweating. Most men think of underarm sweating as part of being a man. You may even pride yourself on how much you sweat when you exercise or when you work. Sweating is manly!
But, it’s not so manly when you are giving a presentation at work or a speech at school and your shirt is soaked right through. Then, it is a sign of nervousness and weakness...
For a woman, underarm sweating is always a bad thing. No man would want to go ask a woman out who had sweat stains under her arms. For any woman who sweats excessively, there is a real reason to stop underarm sweating.
Sweating is not a sign of weakness, and it is not a sign that you are macho. Sweating is your body telling itself to cool down. If you are exercising, you will sweat – and men will sweat more than women. If you are sweating during a time of stress, your body is telling you to relax and stop being so stressed out. But, if you are stressing for no reason, then that is actually a nervous system disorder known as hyperhidrosis.
For people with hyperhidrosis, there are several ways to stop underarm sweating, because what they have is a disorder. For the rest of us, we just need to relax a little, slow down, and get a better antiperspirant.
Doctors who diagnose hyperhidrosis in people will generally start them on a course of stronger antiperspirants. If these fail to work, then they may suggest injections directly into the sweat glands. As you can imagine, these injections (usually of Botox) are uncomfortable, if not painful. They may work in the short term, but the injections may need to be repeated every six to eight months.
